As an experienced instructional designer graduating from the Master of Science in Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies (ISLT-MS) program at Florida State University, my portfolio showcases the full range of competencies developed throughout my studies. These competencies include advanced design thinking, solutions-oriented analysis, evidence-based technology integration, formative evaluation, project management, and interpersonal collaboration, all documented through real-world projects and deliverables. I used this portfolio in multiple job applications, helping me secure positions.
Communication Skills
My portfolio highlights strong communication abilities across various professional formats. Through instructional video demonstrations and multimedia eLearning modules, I convey content using clear, concise messaging and effective visual design principles. For instance, the compliance module for a Contingent Worker policy, which targets specific learners in a regulated environment, employs streamlined on-screen text, voiceover narration, and strategically designed visual cues to address legal requirements while maintaining learner engagement. Throughout the group project focused on fire safety game development, I collaborated on scripts, narrated instructional audio, and contributed to game messaging that models safety behaviors through a house fire scenario. These projects demonstrate my proficiency in producing clear messages, designing instructional visuals, and utilizing appropriate communication tools to meet audience needs.
Analysis Skills
Each instructional solution in my portfolio began with a comprehensive analysis phase. My kettlebell fundamentals module includes a learner analysis and considers performance context, in which I used observations and content analysis from subject-matter expert (SME) interviews to identify skill gaps related to form and safety practices. The Online Training System eLearning module further reflects a system-level needs assessment, focusing on business requirements, user experience, and information management based on the user's role. By conducting task and learner analyses and integrating my findings into design decisions, I demonstrate my ability to use analysis tools and methods to address learning and performance challenges.
Design Skills
Design is central to my portfolio and includes curriculum structuring, instructional sequencing, and the creative integration of learning theories. For instance, I developed an interactive True Colors personality assessment module to foster self-awareness and improve team communication. This module employs reflective questioning and multimedia elements, ensuring alignment between learning outcomes and assessment strategies tailored to learners' needs. Additionally, I utilized instructional theory in the fire safety game module, creating problem-based learning scenarios and interactive feedback that align with Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction. Each design deliverable, including storyboards and mock-ups, demonstrates the application of visual design principles and is intended for stakeholders and developers.
Technology and Media Skills
My portfolio showcases a variety of technologies and media. I created web-based eLearning modules using Articulate Storyline and Rise, incorporating responsive design for accessibility across multiple devices. The interactive True Colors tool features light branching techniques,  and formative assessment logic to simulate a digital quiz experience. I produced video demonstrations that model proper kettlebell form, utilizing Camtasia and Adobe Premiere for editing and creating instructional materials tailored to adult learners. Throughout these projects, I made intentional decisions regarding technology and media based on factors such as cost, scale, interactivity, and learner needs. This reflects not only my development skills but also my ability to justify tool selection to stakeholders.
Evaluation and Research Skills
I integrated formative evaluation into the development of my portfolio artifacts. For example, while creating the fire safety game, I collaborated with my team to conduct iterative prototype testing. This involved collecting peer feedback and reviewing the game's usability to refine interaction paths. Similarly, the kettlebell module underwent a formative evaluation phase, where feedback from pilot learners guided interface adjustments and the inclusion of additional safety content. These practices demonstrate my ability to design, implement, and manage evaluation activities to enhance instructional effectiveness and improve learning outcomes.
Management Skills
Throughout the program, I worked on projects that required comprehensive management, which included creating task lists, timelines, and resource allocation plans. For instance, the compliance module was developed based on a simulated project timeline with clearly defined milestones, feedback checkpoints, and budget considerations. In the group project for the fire safety game, I co-led our team’s planning and coordination, ensuring that the project's goals aligned with stakeholder expectations. These experiences have developed my capacity to manage instructional projects effectively, collaborate with diverse teams, and documen
t project scope and decisions clearly.
Personal and Interpersonal Skills
Interpersonal collaboration has been essential for projects involving group work, stakeholder interviews, and feedback cycles. With over 15 years of professional experience in corporate and learning environments, I have developed strong interpersonal and client management skills that are essential to my instructional design practice. I frequently collaborate with a variety of stakeholders such as executives, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to identify business needs, translate them into learning objectives, and deliver solutions that exceed expectations. My approach focuses on active listening, collaboration, and trust-building, which help me foster positive relationships and keep projects aligned with organizational goals.
This portfolio represents the culmination of my graduate-level learning, professional experience, and practical application of ISLT competencies. Each artifact aligns with the program's core areas: Communication, Analysis, Design, Technology, Evaluation, Management, and Interpersonal Skills. Together, they illustrate my mastery of these areas through unique, real-world instructional products. This comprehensive portfolio showcases my expertise and readiness to lead complex learning design initiatives in the workplace.
